Research

      Research Interests:

Normal behavioral functions rely on precise and complex neural circuits linking large ensembles of neurons. Abnormal circuit development, neurodegenerative diseases and neural injury are detrimental to the performance of the nervous system; however the regenerative capacity of mature mammalian central nervous system (CNS) is extremely limited, creating a major clinical challenge. The long-term objectives of my research are: (1) To study the molecular mechanisms controlling the establishment of neural connections; (2) To understand how neural miswiring and degenerative disorders affect neural circuit function and behavior; (3) To develop new therapeutic strategies for effective maintenance and repair of neural connections in pathologic conditions.
