Postdoc Positions

The laboratory of professor Xiao-Ming Li in the Center of Neuroscienceof Zhejiang University School of Medicine is now seeking candidates for 1-2 postdoctoral fellows from domestic and foreign colleges or universities to engage in neurobiological research.

    1.Institute description

The Center of Neuroscience in Zhejiang University is a Key Laboratory of both the Ministry of Health and Zhejiang Province. It is among the Innovative Research Groups admitted by the National Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Education, and Zhejiang Province. It is also the affiliation of the chairman’s office of the Chinese Society of Neuroscience and of the NSFC Major Plan for Neuronal Circuits of Emotion and Memory. The institute has been propelled for development under the direction of the Zhejiang University and Zhejiang provincial government. In the past five years, the institute has published more than 100 SCI articles, among which many manuscripts are published in top journals such as Science, Cell, Neuron, Nature Neuroscience, Journal of Neuroscience, etc.

    2.Lab description

The principle investigator Xiao-Ming Li, M.D., is a distinguished professor of Zhejiang University, a professor at the University of Toronto, and a “Changjiang” Scholar Distinguished Professor of Ministry of Education. He has obtained the National Outstanding Youth Fund and is among the ten thousand project innovation talents of Central Organization Department as well as the Zhejiang provincial high-level innovative talents in health. Currently, he is the executive vice President of Zhejiang University School of Medicine and the deputy director of the Institute of Neuroscience of Zhejiang University. Focused on interneuronal synaptic transmission and neuronal circuitry function and regulation in physiological and pathological contexts, with special interests in the pathogenesis of neurological diseases such as schizophrenia and epilepsy, the Li’s lab has produced many important research findings which were published in the top academic journals such as Nature Neuroscience, Elife, Journal of Neuroscience, etc.

The Li’s Lab uses mice as the main experimental model along with clinical specimens. Through approaches including electrophysiology, optogenetics, molecular biology, and animal behavioral analysis, the lab studies neuronal circuits associated with emotion and cognition and seeks for the therapeutical cellular or molecular targets which many facilitate the treatment of neurological diseases, especially neuropsychiatric diseases. The postdoctors will work on the following research directions:

Neurobiology (basic medical science): 1. The formation, regulation, and function in emotion of synapses and neural circuits (especially the GABAergic neuronal connection and the diffuse modulatory system); 2. The mechanisms underlying pathogenesis of sleep disorder and neuropsychiatric diseases including schizophrenia and epilepsy.

Neurology (clinical medical science): Clinical research on sleep disorder and neuropsychiatric diseases including schizophrenia and epilepsy.

    3. Position qualifications

      (1) Be under 35 years of age, have obtained or will soon obtain a doctorate degree, be experienced in medicine or life sciences research, and be self-motivated to conduct neuroscience basic and disease research.

      (2) Have intense interests in neuroscience research, be capable of creative but critical thinking and working rather independently, be full of the sense of responsibility and team spirit, and have good English reading, writing, and communication skills.

      (3) Be motivated to work hard, healthy physically and mentally, ambitious and able to work in a team environment.

      (4) Have or is going to have a first author manuscript published in appreciated academic journals.

      (5) Be willing to accept a 2 to 6 year training period. The exact timing will be determined by the mutual consent of both the trainee and the mentor.

    4.Benefit information

      (1) The yearly income will be 200-280 thousand Chinese yuan.

      (2) In addition to the above funding, based on the performance during the training period, the postdoctoral researchers can apply for extra research awards (including publications, patents, etc.) from the mentor according to the related policies of the institution on academic achievement awards.

      (3) The postdoc fellows may apply for international exchanging programs offered by the university. Attending appreciated international academic conferences will be encouraged and supported.

      (4) With their human relations in the school, the postdoctor fellows may apply to transfer to the school’s tenure-track positions after 3 years of continuous training or after 1 year of working in the second postdoc training term immediately following their first term.

    5.Application materials
