Brief introduction

The School of Brain Science and Brain Medicine, devoted to the study of neuroscience and neuromedicine, was founded in October 2019. As the first school focusing on brain science and brain medicine in China, we have brought together neuroscience researchers, clinicians, psychologists, engineers and computational scientists to promote interdisciplinary interactions and collaborations. Our mission is to build an internationally-recognized top-class academic institute in brain science and brain medicine, drive innovative discoveries and train next-generation leaders. Towards this aim, we are dedicated to attracting world-class investigators and building a thriving research community. We strive to make major breakthroughs in dissecting neural mechanisms underlying sensation, motion, emotion and affection, as well as in discovering novel theories and developing new technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of major neurological and psychiatric diseases.

Located at the Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University, the School is also home to the Frontier Science Center for Brain & Brain-machine Integration, National Human Brain Bank for Health and Disease, Key Laboratory of Medical Neurobiology of the Ministry of Health, and Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Neurobiology. The school currently has 57 members, including one academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, one academician of The World Academy of Sciences, two recipients of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation of Science and Technology Progress Award, seven chief scientists of National Program on Key Basic Research Project, four Distinguished and three Outstanding Young Scholars of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Multiple agencies, including the NSFC, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), and provincial funding agencies, provide funding for our research projection. In addition to engagements in scientific research, we are actively promoting and launching new enrollment and training programs for both undergraduate and graduate students. We hold a core value to “be kind, creative and exceptional” in pursuing the truth and making new discoveries. Together, we are committed to solving the mystery of the brain and improving the mental health of human being.
