Preparatory Meeting for Building the Frontier Center of Brain and Brain-machine Integration Ministry Education Successfully Held

In the morning of March 25, the preparatory meeting for the “Frontier Center of Brain and Brain-machine Integration was held in Zhejiang University. Meeting attendees include Zhaohui Wu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Zhejiang University; Shumin Duan and Gang Pei, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Runsheng Gao, deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Education; Hui zou and Yan ge, deputy Director of the Department of Basic Science of the Ministry of Education; 9 experts in brain science, as well as more than 30 faculties from School of Medicine, Qiushi Academy for Advanced Studies and other disciplines of Zhejiang University.

 

On behalf of Zhejiang University, President Zhaohui Wu introduced the latest progress and future plan of Zhejiang University in the field of brain science and technology, especially advances in basic neuroscience and brain machine interface. He also introduced plans to attract and cultivate talents in the relevant field. Runsheng Gao, deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Education introduced the background, ideas and working ideas of the Ministry of Education in implementing the basic research project of Mount Everest and building frontier science centers in several fields.

 

Aacademician Gang Pei chaired the meeting. Academician Shumin Duan, dean of the School of Medicine of Zhejiang University and Director of the Center for Neuroscience Science made the report to the panel. The panel carefully reviewed the plan and held a heated discussion. In principle, they agreed on the plan for building the center and provided specific advices and suggestions for further improvements.

 

The panel unanimously agreed that Zhejiang University has a long history and solid foundation in the field of brain science research. In addition, the multi-disciplinary nature combining basic and clinical research, as well as engineering, is the highlight of the upcoming center. Zhejiang University is at a position to make fundamental contributions in basic neuroscience, clinical translations and artificial intelligence. In the future, Zhejiang University will actively explore new systems and mechanisms, and participate in the preparation and promotion of China Brain Project under the guidance of the Ministry of Education.
