Mental disorders (schizophrenia) related growth factor NRG1 signaling pathway is highly associated with synapse development, synaptic transmission and myelination of interneuron. LAP family protein Erbin inhibits the endocytic degradation of Erbin binding protein ErbB2 (NRG1 receptor), thereby promotes the NRG1 signal transduction and the formation of peripheral myelin. Meanwhile, Erbin inhibits the endocytic degradation of its another binding protein TARP γ -2 (accessory protein AMPA receptor) in the inhibitory interneurons, thereby promots the excitory transmission in excitory interneurons, maintains the normal central nervous function and normal animal behavior. These foundations indicate the key pathological pathway of Erbin in regulation of mental disorders.
