Academician Jean-pierre Changeux, Honorary Dean of the Department of Neuroscience, Pasteur Institute, France, Attended

On November 9th, 2018, Academician Jean-pierre Changeux, honorary dean of the department of neuroscience of the Pasteur Institute in France, was invited to visit Zhejiang university school of medicine. What ‘s more, he attended the Xinglin Forum and given a leading academic report of “The nicotinc receptor from chemistry to cognition”.

Jean-pierre Changeux is a very outstanding and legendary person. His main research area is the nicotine receptor and its mechanisms. Academician Changeux's research achievements in nicotine receptors have earned him many honors, including the Einstein Prize, the Gourdon Award, the Wolf Prize, the Balzan Award, the Royal Merck Award, and the Louis-Jeantet Medicine Awards and so on. Academician Changeux is also the representative painter of France in the 1960s. His accomplishments in art and biology are so high that he has become an academician of more than 20 countries. In order to promote the development of brain science, he wrote many books, including Neuronal Man: The Biology of Mind; Conversations on Mind, Matter and Mathematics.

In the report, academician Changeux first explained the concept of allosteric interactions, introduced the allosteric protein nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, and present regulation of nAChR and nicotine drugs from molecular cells and neural networks to the level of ideology; and different nAChR subunits for the regulation of nicotine addiction. Finally, introduced us that nicotine and nicotine can be used as an enhancer of consciousness for the treatment of clinical psychiatric diseases, including Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.

After the report, the teachers and students actively asked questions and conducted in-depth discussions with Academician Changeux. This academic activity has benefited the teachers and students present and has a very high learning value.
